Tetris Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any major prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
